About the event

Are you curious about section or thru hiking a long trail? Join us at Arrow Adventure to learn from a panel that has experience "hiking their own hike" on a variety of trails - from Ohio's own Buckeye Trail, all the way to the Pacific Crest Trail. We'll have a moderated chat where you'll hear stories from the trails and get tips to help you become mentally, physically and gear-ready for a successful hike. Beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase! Feel free to bring in food from a neighboring restaurant for dinner.


  • Brent Anslinger is the Outdoor Recreation Program Manager at Five Rivers Metroparks in Dayton. His first backpacking trip was at age 15 in the Smokies with Boy Scouts. He continued his backpacking journey with several weekend trips before thru hiking the Appalachian Trail in 1997, Pacific Crest Trail in 2001 and Buckeye Trail in 2003. His favorite local trails are the Twin Valley Trail at Germantown Metropark and Twin Creek Metropark.
  • Amy Anslinger is an avid paddler and hiker, who also is part-time adventure guide with Explorer Chicks. She started over 30 years agos with an Outward Bound Adventure in Maine - her first time climbing Mt. Katahdin. She has completed thru-hikes of the Pacific Crest and Buckeye Trails. her favorite local trail is the Germantown Metropark Orange Trail. 
  • Jason Scroggs started backpacking and camping as a kid with scouts. He has hiked the Sheltowee Trace, Pacific Crest Trail sections, Appalachian Trail Sections, Foothills Trail, and other multi day hikes both with groups and solo. His favorite local trails are the Steve Newman World Walker and Shawnee State Forest Backpacking Trail. His motto is "the only way to know is to do."
  • Sarah Howard started hiking five years ago, and is currently section hiking the Buckeye Trail, having 800 miles of the trail under her belt thus far. Her favorite local trail is the perimeter trail at Caesar Creek Lake, Caesar Creek Lake Nature Preserve and Indian Mound Preserve.
